The biggest issue however, is the design. If this is your first child, then you are still be on the learning curve of child proofing, so to make this large an investment and then realise that there is a major flaw in your design will be very frustrating.

The other important thing to bear in mind is that an extra wide baby gate is there to safeguard the baby, but it is the adults who have to use it. If you choose a gate which is awkward for you to use you are more likely to get lapse in closing it and then you defeat the point of having a gate at all.
